Wiring Diagram For A Double Pole Throw Switch

By | October 31, 2022

Wiring a double pole throw switch is a relatively easy task for anyone who has a basic understanding of electrical wiring. If you’ve ever installed an appliance, ceiling fan, or light switch before, then you are probably already familiar with the basics of wiring a double pole throw (DPT) switch. A DPT switch is used for turning a single circuit on and off from two different locations. It’s a very useful tool for controlling separate circuits in larger areas.

The first step in wiring a DPT switch is to identify the terminals on the switch. This is done by looking at the diagram on the switch itself. Once you have identified the terminals, it’s time to begin the actual wiring process. First, you will need to connect the hot wires to the two terminals labeled as “Inputs.” These are the wires that will be connected to the power source. It is important to note that each input is powered by a different circuit, which is why you will need to label them clearly.

Next, you will want to connect the load wires to the terminals marked as “Outputs.” These wires will control the power to whatever device is being controlled by the switch. It’s important to remember that these wires should never be connected to each other, as this can cause a short circuit. After connecting the load wires, you can then attach the neutral wires to the “Neutral” terminal. Finally, you will need to connect the ground wire to the “Ground” terminal.

Once all of the wiring is complete, you are ready to install the switch. Make sure that all of the wires are firmly secured and that there are no exposed metal wires. Then, turn on the power to the double pole throw switch and test it out. If everything is working correctly, you will be able to control the power to whatever device the switch is controlling.

Wiring a double pole throw switch is not a difficult task and can be easily accomplished by anyone with a basic understanding of electrical wiring. With just a few simple steps, you can wire a DPT switch in no time at all. So, if you have an appliance, ceiling fan, or light switch that needs to be controlled from two different locations, then a DPT switch may be just what you need.
